MLA's Week: May 4-7, 2015

Education and autism services for families in the region for the most part made up the majority of the talking points for the North Coast MLA this week, as Jennifer Rice outlined her concerns over an education bill, as well as the need for more support on the North Coast for families with special needs children.

As we do at the end of each week of the Legislature session, we outlined some of the main notes of interest from the North Coast MLA's work week.

Ms. Rice was listed five times in the archive of participants for the twelve sessions of the Legislature in the House, or those related to House Committee work listed for the week of May 4-7.

Monday afternoon she spoke to proposed amendments to the Liberal Government's Education Statutes Bill 11, highlighting her concern over the rush that the Government has put on the process.

During the afternoon session of the Committee of Supply for the Ministry of Children and Family Development, Ms. Rice also had questions for Minister Cadieux related to resources available to rural and northern communities for parents of children with autism

In Tuesday's morning session she returned to the theme of the contracting out of laundry services in the Interior, seeking information from Health Minister Terry Lake on the issue

Later in that same morning session, she delivered a statement of recognition for the province's mid-wife industry, making note of some of the challenges that are found in northern and rural communities for the industry.

As for her regular committee work, MLA Rice is a member of the Standing Committee on Children and Youth.

The Legislature returns to work on Monday morning.
