Tuck Inlet Road project gains Adventure Paving Contractor of Year Award

British Columbia's Ministry of Transportation is handing out its year end awards this month and a high profile road construction project on the North Coast has put a Prince Rupert contractor at the top of the list.

Adventure Paving which was awarded the 20 million dollar contract for work on the Tuck Inlet road has won this year's Deputy Minister's Contractor of the year Award of Excellence.

The awards which were handed out earlier this month found the provincial ministry offering a salute to the local firm and workers from Lax Kw'alaams for the efforts required on the road that connects Lax Kw'alaams with the Ferry Dock at the head of Tuck Inlet.

The project which rebuilt the road and replaced crossings along the route was one of the largest road construction projects in the region in recent years. With its completion in September the rebuilt route has provided for a much safer journey for residents of Lax Kw'alaams as they make their way to and from the Spirit of Lax Kw'alaams Ferry Dock.

As part of the work which took place over this past summer, 21 members of the Lax Kw'alaams community were employed on the project, with Adventure Paving also spending over 500,000 dollars on material and equipment on the North Coast.

Transportation Minister Todd Stone outlined the challenges that the Prince Rupert based contractor faced as they worked to bring the project to completion on time.

“This project was a huge undertaking, considering all the equipment had to be transported via barge,” ... “Adventure Paving did an incredible job of completing this project on time and within the budget, under very challenging conditions.”
